White list an email in Gmail
This is a short guide to white list an email address which keeps going into spam.
Note: This is not a fool proof guide, as the spam technology from Gmail does change and there are other factors which might need to be taken into consideration when using these methods.
Below are 3 methods you can take to white list an email.
Method 1 - not spam
Go to your spam folder in Gmail and select the email using the checkbox and simply mark as not spam. By doing this, you are teaching Gmail that the email does not belong in the spam folder. This method can take time to train Gmail.
- Open Gmail
- Select Spam (If you don’t see Spam, select More then find Spam)
- Open or select the desired email message
- At the top of the page, select Not spam (The message will be moved to your inbox)
Method 2 - Add sender as a contact
If your contacts are not automatically added to Google Contacts (This is a setting under Gmail settings) then add the troublesome email as a contact in Google Contacts. When you add the sender's email to your contacts, it informs Google that you want to receive emails from that sender. This is not a guaranteed method, but does help.
- On your computer, go to contacts.google.com
- Select Create contact
- Enter all the info about the sender, including the email address
- Save the new contact
Method 3 - Creating a filter in Gmail
Using filters from Gmail is very powerful and will work well in keeping emails out of the spam folder. Filters can be used as an alternative to methods 1 & 2 - but all 3 methods are preferred.
Filters can only be created and modified using the webmail version of Gmail.
- Open Gmail
- In the search box at the top, select the Down arrow
- In the From field, enter the sender email address
- At the bottom of the search window, click Create filter
- Select Never send it to Spam
- Click Create filter
